Our vision includes much more than just cutting and colouring. It is about the knowledge, the space, the experience, the people and the results. We are proud to bring Rose & Onyx Hair Company to the community.
we thank you for your support!
The story begins with the decision to open a new space in St. Albert that offers a different hair salon experience for both the client and the stylist. We are passionate about community, generosity, gender equality, conservation, self-improvement, education and creativity. These are the influences behind every decision made since. Learn about some of our efforts to build our business with those things in mind.
With R&O we have created an open-concept floor plan so that the experience for the client and stylist is one of community supported by teamwork. Each stylist has their own station, but at Rose and Onyx we have made those stations moveable. With the ability to change the work space we have opened up opportunity for more creative and innovative work, especially for large groups or photo shoots.
The salon is open, bright, vibrant, joyful, warm and inviting. We are certain you will enjoy your time in our chairs and we will work to send you home with the perfect reminder of your experience with us.
Our Conservation Efforts
We are a Green Circle Salon. This means that we recycle nearly everything, including your hair and all of the waste colour and chemicals. The impact that Green Circle Salons is having on the environment and for the industry is remarkable.
From the construction materials to the finishings, nearly everything at Rose and Onyx is made of re-used or repurposed materials. The barn wood for the hand-made mirrors and shelves were donated by a friend. Hardware, fixtures, lighting and most other building materials were found un-wasted at Home Re:usables in Edmonton.
Gender Free Pricing
Gender free pricing means that we charge for our services based on the length of hair and not gender. We are proud to be a part of reshaping how the beauty industry thinks about customers and put an end to this generalization into “pink'“ and '‘blue'‘ market categories.
R&O community improvement programs
- Haircuts for the Homeless: With this effort, R&O stylists visit shelters offering cuts to those in need of a little refreshing.
- Family cuts at the Ronald McDonald House: When families are staying at RMDH they often have little time to bring the family to the salon, so we bring the salon to them.
- Get a Haircut and Get a Job: This youth program (under 21) offers a free refresher cut and style with evidence of a job interview. We want to wish our future workforce the best of luck.

Workshops and events
we host a number of workshops offering tips and techniques to the public as well as expert classes to other licensed hairstylists. We want to improve the general knowledge that people have about maintaining their healthy hair and body.
In addition to our regular workshop series we will offer an occasional special event including hair shows, concerts, runway shows and mixers. We love to work closely with local businesses and artists, and we look forward to seeing you out at one of these celebrations.
We will soon be announcing the workshop details on a “Workshops” page attached to this website. Stay tuned here, on socials or the mail list to get the details for the upcoming schedule of programs.
