01 — Wash Day
Wash Day Fine / Thin
Use co-wash or sulfate-free shampoo only — sulfates strip the natural oils that hold your curl pattern together.
Apply conditioner mid-lengths to ends only — fine hair gets greasy fast near the scalp.
Detangle in the shower with conditioner in — finger-detangle first, then wide-tooth comb.
Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle and enhance shine.
Fine modifier: wash every 2–3 days to avoid hygral fatigue — avoid heavy deep-conditioning masks.
Thin modifier: gentle scalp massage during wash increases circulation and root volume.
Fine / Thin note: Skip heavy deep-conditioning masks — they will flatten fine curls. A lightweight spray leave-in is all the extra moisture fine curly hair needs.
02 — Drying
Drying Fine / Thin
Use a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt only — never terrycloth, which destroys curl pattern.
Plop — wrap hair in a t-shirt for 10–20 minutes after washing to encourage curl formation before diffusing.
Diffuse upside down on low heat to build root volume — fine hair is fragile when wet, handle with care.
Thin modifier: lift roots with fingers while diffusing — air drying alone tends to flatten fine curly hair.
03 — Styling
Styling Fine / Thin
Apply product to soaking wet hair — not damp.
Use mousse only for fine curly hair — even lightweight gels are too heavy and cause frizz.
Tiny amounts: one small pump of leave-in, one small pump of mousse. More product equals flat, stringy curls.
Apply product in sections — fine hair tangles easily if you try to work through it all at once.
Scrunch out the crunch once fully dry to soften the cast.
Fine / Thin styling note: If your curls look stringy or flat after drying, you've used too much product. Halve the amount next wash day and build back up from there.
04 — Refresh Days
Refresh Days Fine / Thin
Refresh with a spray bottle of water to re-wet, then scrunch in a tiny amount of mousse.
Avoid over-wetting — too much moisture causes fine curls to sag.
Pineapple at night (loose high ponytail) to preserve curl shape while sleeping.
Thin modifier: silk or satin pillowcase or bonnet is essential — fine hair breaks easily on cotton.
05 — Product Guide
Product Guide Fine / Thin
Use: lightweight mousse, spray leave-in conditioner, monthly protein treatment.
Avoid: gels, heavy creams, butters, silicones, alcohol-heavy sprays, oils as styling products.
Fine note: fine hair lacks structural strength — a monthly protein treatment adds resilience.

01 — Wash Day
Wash Day Coarse / Thick
Use co-wash or sulfate-free shampoo — wash weekly, not more often.
Apply a rich conditioner generously from mid-lengths to ends — coarse hair is thirsty.
Deep condition every wash — coarse curls need intense moisture retention.
Detangle gently with a wide-tooth comb while conditioner is in.
Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle.
Thick modifier: section hair to ensure full saturation — allow longer rinse time.
Coarse / Thick note: Deep conditioning is non-negotiable for coarse curly hair. Without it, the hair becomes dry, brittle, and prone to frizz and breakage.
02 — Drying
Drying Coarse / Thick
Use a microfibre towel or t-shirt to scrunch out excess water.
Air dry as much as possible before diffusing — heat causes frizz on coarse waves.
Plop for 20–30 minutes — coarse curls need more time to set.
Thick modifier: diffuse in sections — this hair type takes significantly longer to dry.
03 — Styling
Styling Coarse / Thick
Apply to soaking wet hair.
Layer a heavy curl cream and a strong-hold gel — coarse curls need weight to define.
Generous product amounts are fine — coarse curly hair can carry more product without going flat.
Scrunch firmly upward from ends to encourage clumping.
Scrunch out the crunch once fully dry.
Coarse / Thick styling note: If your curls are frizzy after drying, try adding a little more gel on top of your curl cream while hair is still wet.
04 — Refresh Days
Refresh Days Coarse / Thick
Re-wet more fully with a spray bottle — coarse curls can handle more water on refresh days.
Scrunch in a small amount of your original curl cream or gel.
Pineapple at night to protect curl shape.
Thick modifier: satin or silk pillowcase — prevents frizz and breakage.
05 — Product Guide
Product Guide Coarse / Thick
Use: heavy curl creams, oils as sealants (apply over wet product), strong-hold gel.
Avoid: silicones (especially in conditioner), alcohol-heavy sprays.
Coarse note: oils seal moisture into the hair shaft — apply as the last product over wet styling products.
