01 — Wash Day
Wash Day Fine / Thin
Use sulfate-free shampoo — sulfates strip the oils that define wave pattern.
Scrunch conditioner into lengths — do not comb or brush it through.
On non-shampoo days, co-wash to maintain moisture without stripping.
Rinse with cool water to help the wave pattern hold.
Fine modifier: lightweight products only — heavy formulas kill wavy texture instantly.
Thin modifier: use a volumising shampoo — skip conditioner near roots entirely.
Fine / Thin note: The goal for fine wavy hair is always volume first. Choose every product with that in mind — if it feels heavy in your hand, it will be too heavy for your hair.
02 — Drying
Drying Fine / Thin
Scrunch out excess water with a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt — never terrycloth.
Plop for 10–15 minutes to encourage wave formation.
Diffuse on low heat, upside down to build root volume.
Fine modifier: air dry as long as possible before diffusing — fine wavy hair responds well to air.
Thin modifier: diffuse roots first to build volume before working down the lengths.
03 — Styling
Styling Fine / Thin
Apply product to soaking wet hair.
Use mousse only for fine wavy hair — one small pump is usually enough.
Scrunch hair upward from ends to encourage wave clumping.
Scrunch out the crunch once fully dry.
Fine modifier: no gel — even lightweight gel is too heavy for fine wavy hair.
Fine / Thin styling note: If your waves disappear after drying, try applying product while your hair is wetter — the wave sets better when there is more water present.
04 — Refresh Days
Refresh Days Fine / Thin
Lightly mist with a spray bottle — avoid over-wetting, which causes fine waves to sag.
Scrunch in a minimal amount of mousse to revive the wave pattern.
Thin modifier: focus product on lengths, not roots — adding weight at the root flattens volume.
Avoid: heavy creams, gels, silicones, alcohol-heavy sprays, oils as styling products.
Fine wavy note: when in doubt, use less product — fine wavy hair is very easily weighed down.

01 — Wash Day
Wash Day Coarse / Thick
Use sulfate-free shampoo — wash every 3–4 days to preserve natural oils.
Apply a richer conditioner generously to lengths and ends.
Deep condition weekly to maintain moisture retention in coarse strands.
Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle.
Thick modifier:clarify monthly — product buildup flattens waves in thick hair faster than other types.
Coarse / Thick note: Monthly clarifying is essential — product and mineral buildup accumulates faster in dense hair and progressively flattens your wave pattern.
02 — Drying
Drying Coarse / Thick
Scrunch out excess water with a microfibre towel or t-shirt.
Air dry as much as possible before diffusing — heat causes frizz on coarse wavy hair.
Diffuse on medium heat in sections — thick hair takes longer to dry.
Coarse modifier: a small amount of smoothing serum before drying reduces frizz significantly.
03 — Styling
Styling Coarse / Thick
Apply to soaking wet hair.
Layer a lightweight curl cream and a light-hold gel — coarse wavy hair can carry more product.
Scrunch firmly upward to encourage wave clumping.
Scrunch out the crunch once fully dry.
Thick modifier: work product through in sections for even distribution.
Coarse / Thick styling note: Working product through in sections takes a little longer but makes a real difference — you'll get more even definition and less frizz.
04 — Refresh Days
Refresh Days Coarse / Thick
Re-wet more fully with a spray bottle — coarse wavy hair can handle more water on refresh days.
Scrunch in a small amount of your original curl cream or gel.
Thick modifier: a small amount of smoothing serum on the ends freshens the look and controls frizz.
